About Us

We Empower Parents to Educate Children for Excellence.

The National Black Home Educators  is a resource network founded by Eric and Joyce Burges in July 2000. This association will encourage, support and offer fellowship to families who are exploring benefits of home education. Eric and his wife, Joyce, have homeschooled for more than 25 years. The National Black Home Educators, a premier networking organization founded by the Burgeses, was created to serve the community by providing assistance with information about getting started homeschool, networking/connecting veteran families with new families, recommending resources such as books, music, films, speaking information, curriculum, etc. NBHE’s mission endeavors to empower parents to educate their children for excellence

Our wonderful volunteers make it possible for NBHE to keep the cost of services to a minimum.  As an organization we are able to offer many wonderful services not just to members, but to the public.  We offer parent training sessions, one to one homeschool consultations, regular informational newsletters, to name a few.  Your membership fees help to make these services available to families around the country.  Your investment in this organization sustains us and assures that NBHE will always have a presence. Your membership works to further the right of our children and their children, however, membership fees do not sustain NBHE staff nor its volunteers.  Membership fees are not refundable.

    Our Promise to You

Studies show that parental involvement in education not only boosts the child’s interest in education, but strengthens the tie between parent and child.  NBHE was created first of all to inspire parents with the idea that they can empower their children for excellence, and secondly to give them the tools to do so.  NBHE continually provides free information and training resources to parents.
